I was listening to these songs today and it brought back a rush of memories to me. As horrific as the Vietnam era was on so many levels, it was a significant time as well. It was a time of major consciousness shifting for the world. It was so major it has left indelible images in our minds of who we were at that time, what we thought and what we believed in. I truly believe we are in the middle of another major shift, the only difference we don’t have music to capture it as we did back then. Maybe we do, maybe its just me aging and not being so much a part of the music scene, but it doesn’t seem like we have songs that capture our hearts and minds like we did back then, songs that will hold our memories decades from now. Still it is a momentous time, you can feel it growing around us, pushing something of importance to the surface.
I think back in the sixties we were in the process of changing the world forever and somehow it feels as if this time around we are completing that change and becoming a whole new species. Everything about the old paradigm is crashing in flames around us everyday, the majority of the people no longer willing to listen to lies, awakened they struggle to make sense of the insanity that surrounds them. There is little logic in the world today, just snippets of schizophrenic behavior, paranoia and psychotic thinking. I would imagine for many these appear to be frightening times, but really we need to embrace them, for they are part of a new world unfolding. Back in the sixties when we were diving under desks to protect ourselves from bombs there was still an element of trust we were feeling as the hippies carried us into the world of love and peace. We made it through and hold many of the memories fondly within us. We are doing this again, we must trust and have faith.
There is an excitement in the air along with the fatigue we are feeling from this long struggle to find ourselves. The battle has been fierce and unending, but we stagger on over the next hill and around the next corner, still holding onto hope that the end is near and light and love will finally conquer the dark. We have not a clue what lies ahead in this next era we are now entering, but we still harbor that same gutsy determination to see this through to the end. I realize only the aging hippies can really relate to this post, it is in many ways another call to arms such as we have been through before. The love of the sixties is still with us only now it holds far deeper meaning than free love and flowers this time. It is our savior, the key to the next door we must go through on this journey. We almost had it right in the sixties, but we didn’t fully realize that love held all the answers and once we mastered it, peace would follow. This is a very exciting time indeed and it is important to cast the fear aside and immerse ourselves in what is taking place and ride it out to the end.
Blessings to us all,
